Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

BSN Generic Program

The BSN Generic Program requires the successful completion of 58 semester hours of prerequisite coursework prior to beginning Upper Division Courses. Texas common course numbers are provided below for comparison purposes. Your college counselor will be able to advise you in equivalencies to common course numbers. Information is also available at the following website:  http://www.tccns.org

BSN Accelerated Program

The Accelerated Nursing Track is ideal for students who already have a bachelor's or advanced degree in a field other than nursing and have decided to make an important career shift into nursing. This program is specifically designed for candidates with bachelor’s (BA, BS) or higher advanced degrees in other fields. Students can complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree 15 months.

Students are admitted to the Accelerated track once each year to begin in the spring term. The TAMHSC College of Nursing will be offering students the opportunity to complete this curriculum in two locations: College Station or Round Rock. Both sites offer exceptional facilities, experiences, and services with low student/faculty ratios in order to ensure students receive an excellent education and are prepared to enter a rewarding new career. The Round Rock location is pending approval from the Board of Nursing for spring 2010.

Acceptance into this track requires successful completion of 25 semester hours of prerequisite coursework prior to beginning Upper Division Courses.

RN to BSN Program

The RN to BSN Program is for students who have an Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma and have an active RN license.  The time required to complete the RN to BSN program will vary depending on the student's previous experience, number of hours taken each semester, and course availability.  The program combines traditional classroom as well as distance learning education enabling students to work full time while completing their education. All applicants are expected to complete prerequisite nursing course work as well as any outstanding Health Science Center core curriculum courses prior to beginning the baccalaureate program.

Upper Division Course Requirements

The BSN Upper Division Courses consist of 65 semester credits for the Accelerated and Generic programs and 31 semester credits for the RN to BSN program.  Upon successful completion of the curriculum and clinical experiences, students following the Generic Program will graduate 22 months after entry, Accelerated students will graduate 15 months after entry, and RN to BSN students may finish in 12 months.
